Middle table finish again for the first XI

In the last league game of the season Lymington had a comfortable win against already relegated Havant by 49 runs led by a fine innings from Ryan Scott. This gave the side its seventh win of the season and enabled it to finish fifth (out of ten) in the table its same position as in 2023 follwing a 5 point deduction for Bournemouth in its last game of the season. The average points per game this season was 11.688 a slight improvment on the 11.50 of last season.

Lymington won the toss and decided to bat on what seemed an autumn day and got off to a poor start with neither of the Dhariwal brothers able to put an inning together. Kamran (2) had a good season with the bat but playing for others sides (including Hampshire seconds) but less so for Lymington and Jovan (4) soon followed. With Monam Abbas (0) also out of form but still finishing the season as the fourth highest run scorer in the Premier Division the side slipped to 24-3 with spinner Warren Turner (3-29) taking all three wickets. Robbie Hemmings (50 in 99 balls) promoted to number three again showed good technique and with Ryan Scott (88) the pair put on 79 runs for the fourth wicket. Having scored his fifty Hemmings was then out lbw next ball to Richard Hindley (1-45). Scott though powered on helped by Conor Moors (12) and Gareth Berg (23) but in sight of his century and running out of partners and overs he was ninth out. He holed out to Harrison Barnard off the bowling of Charlie Whitfield (2-37) while Chris Stone (3-22) removed batters nine to eleven as the last five wickets fell for just nine runs.

The Lymington bowlers only had a modest total to defend but soon set about their task with all six taking wickets. Liam Thompson (2-26) playing his last game for the club before returning to Adelaide had opener Charlie Whitfield (0) out after just four balls. Gareth Berg (2-28) then had Louis Clayton (16) out followed shortly by Ben Feeney (0)) both caught. Islander youngster Albert Adkins (1-21) making his league debut for the first XI eventually got his line right to bowl Harrison Barnard (17) after he and Chris Stone (20) had held up the innings for a while with Stone then caught by Guy Layman (1-12). Wickets continued to fall with both father Asad (2-21) and son Monam Abbas (2-34) with their left arm spin giving problems to the batters. Stuart Ransley (42) held the Lymington bowlers at bay for a while joining Peter Hopson (25) with the pair putting on 45 runs for the eighth wicket before Hopson played on to Berg. Ransley was then last man out trying to force the pace and Havant fell well short.

After the game stand-in captain Gareth Berg emphasised the need for the side to be more professional next season and the need for greater consistency. It was the bowling that was the stronger over the season with two players Berg (30 wickets) and Thompson (29) being among the top ten wickets takers in the Premier Division.
