A brilliant all round team performance and a dramatic finish gave Lymington a match to be proud of. Oscar was our first captain to win the toss this season and he had no hesitation in taking to the field for the first innings and set the example with a fine spell of bowling taking 2 wickets. Connor followed suit with pace and accuracy, also taking 2. Bella turned in another great performance against strong batting and together with Otto took a wicket each.
Charlotte’s accuracy made life difficult, frustrating Dibden with two low scoring overs. She also bowled a magnificent beamer that smashed the stumps but was sadly judged to be too high.
In the outfield Otto tirelessly chased down Dibden’s shots at every opportunity to limit their tally. Connor was sharp as always and Zack W did a fine job at Long Stop. Generally, the Lymington fielding was tight, Zack P gained valuable points with a razor-sharp run out. Behind the stumps Vinnie was athletic and saved several stray deliveries and so to Bruno who was inches away from taking the catch of the season.
Dibden & Hythe ended their 20 overs with 279 and after Lymington replenished energy levels with a generous selection of custard creams and bourbon biscuits were ready to bat.
Zack W and Oscar opened the batting and were subjected to some impressive bowling but stood firm. Otto & Zack P followed with a fine partnership of 24 runs with some great shot play and agile running between the wickets. Connor & Jonah followed suit with 18, Conor batted elegantly, and Jonah cracked a couple of superb 4s and showed great courage when hit on the helmet with a lively delivery.
Bella & Charlotte kept the score ticking over and with our last pair, Bruno and Vinnie we still had a hill to climb to stay in the match. Bruno was up for the challenge and tearing down the wicket on his first delivery the opposition realised they were on for a fight. Powerful batting from both boys and dynamic running lifted the team as they cheered from the boundary. Zack ‘the rock’ Walrock had to be quietened as he roared with delight as another ball crashed over the rope. In the end the pair put on 25 as we flew past the required total to make 306 and victorious Lymington enjoyed another fruitful weekend.
