Lymington Under 9s Into Last Four
Straight bowling and some decisive fielding were key to Lymington, as they continued their good form in the cup.
A superb game of cricket was played at a sun-drenched sports ground, in front of an excellent crowd.
Allstars cricket, U9s squad training and the New Forest U9s Cup game were all held at the same place and time, meaning over 50 youngsters were enjoying cricket in the town on Tuesday evening. It was quite a sight, and as a result the fixture enjoyed a great atmosphere.
Fawley bowled first having won the toss, and played some fantastic cricket. Their catching in particular was exceptional, restricting Lymington to 260 at the half-way point. Lymington however, bowled and fielded well to restrict Fawley to 238 at the close. Coach James Chapman commented, “the Fawley catching was as good as anything we’ve seen this season. One of the youngsters took a catch running back over his shoulder. The watching crowd couldn’t believe their eyes! Fawley are a real handful”. Team Manager Simon Naylor added, “Lymington were relieved to get through against such a talented team. We felt we were 20 runs short at the interval, but some great bowling made it very hard for the opposition. Highlights of the match were a triple wicket maiden by Denning, an excellent direct hit run out by Tristan, and a towering six from Zach”.
Lymington CC U9s look forward to their semi-final in a few weeks.
