Lymington U9s Win NFJCA 2021
Lymington welcomed Redlynch & Hale CC to the Sports Ground on Tuesday for the long awaited final of the U9 Cup. The match had to be delayed a few weeks due to a covid outbreak, but everyone was in great health for the much-anticipated match.
Lymington won the toss, and having beaten a very strong Sway side in the semi-final, decided on going with the same format, and batted first. As usual the openers of Charlotte and Bess got off to a solid start, with 17 coming off their first four overs. The next pair of Max and Denning continued to build, taking the total to 234 at the half-way mark. Redlynch’s bowling was accurate, and made scoring difficult. However, Zach and Wilf added some extra impetus, and when the final pair of Freddie and Bruno were done, Lymington had posted an impressive 74 runs off their four pairs.
Redlynch were keen to give the tricky total a real run for it’s money, and started their reply in determined fashion. However, they were up against some excellent Lymington bowling. Denning pegged back the opposition with two early wickets, and from then on, the opposition were up against it. Redlynch continued to bat with great spirit, but the Lymington bowlers were relentlessly accurate, and managed to take regular wickets.
In the end, Redlynch came up 60 runs short to cap off a great cup run for the home team. The game was played in a fantastic spirit, and it was sad there had to be a loser. Given the quality of the cricket on display, there will no doubt be more success to come for both teams.
