What a late Xmas present Ximus gives to Lymington cricket
40 Over Friendly
Lymington I 257-6 Purbrook 143 all out
Lymington’s latest overseas recruit Ximus Du Plooy, who was featured in last week’s Lymington Times, put in an amazing performance with both bat and ball as Lymington outgunned Purbrook in a pre-season friendly. On a good and dry wicket at Purbrook Heath he scored 129 not out in only 90 balls before taking 3-3 in 4 overs with the ball and also three catches.
Batting first Lymington got off to a slow start and after 20 overs were only 64-3 when opener Dan Cox fell for 20 and Ximus entered the field with Lymington putting on 193 runs in the last 20 overs. He and Henry Edwards (18) put on 60 for the fourth wicket before Ximus really hammered the Purbrook bowling putting on 101 with another newcomer, James Wade (17). Ximus score 92 in boundaries with 14 fours and 6 sixes. Tom Amis and James Gurney each took two wickets for Purbrook.
On batting Purbrook actually got off to a good start as Clark Harding (15) and Sean Figgins (31) put on 55 for the first wicket with captain Josh Royan (2-26) finally breaking the partnership. Thereafter, the Purbrook batsmen succumbed regularly to the Lymington attack as their resistance crumbled. Sean was the first of Ximus’s wickets followed by captain Josh McCoy (24) and then Brad Mengham next ball. Hayden Sole (24) threatened to get Purbrook back into the game before he was removed by Jude Tollerfield who finished on 3-12.
It was a good warm up win for Lymington before they start the rigours of the Southern Premier League season at Hampshire Academy. All games are 50 overs with a 11.30 start.
